 Greetings!
Staying warm? Enjoying the cooler weather? I know I am. The sun is bright and beautiful and the leaves on the trees are changing color. I absolutely love this time of year and it is my favorite time to pull out the field easel and paint outdoors. Then, pack it all up, drive home, and throw on some cozy slippers and make some hot cocoa before grabbing a good book. Yep, I love this time of year.
Red Easel is getting back on track and I couldn't be happier. I have spent the last 2 months redesigning the site and I am proud of the results. I hope you will be too! Mostly, I need you, my artist friends, to write and contribute stories from your studio and experiences, tutorials, and more. That has been my goal with Red Easel from the beginning is to have an online magazine where you - artist friends - can write and share your stories, your goals, your dreams, things that you have learned, and anything that you believe would be of interest to other artists. And, don't think that your story won't be of interest because it will. I believe that we all share an inner desire to create and to write. Your contributions have been wonderful, but I need many more. Enough to fill a daily story on Red Easel.
Contribute regularly, occasionally, or only once in a while, but please contribute - and by "contribute" I mean please write stories, take pictures, and send your stories, articles, tutorials, history lessons, or whatever is on your mind to susan@redeasel.com!!! Please include images!
With every contribution you make you add value to your own art career because your by-line and link to your Webpage and Red Easel Gallery page are included at the top of your stories and a short bio at the end of your story. If you go to Google and search Red Easel or any of the content of the articles that we have published, you will find that we are at the top of the list in the Google search engine. Why? Because I know what Google and the search engines want. Google likes clean content, meta-tags, and keywords. And you know something - I think I just might write a story for Red Easel about this very subject to help all of you improve your ranking in the search engines - deal? Deal. But I want you to write something for Red Easel. And the best part is that you can put your story contributions with a link to that story in your biography (resume) and post it under "Publications."
Just know that Red Easel is "your" site. We are here for "you." We want to read your stories. We want to read about your struggles and your successes. We want you to share. Give and it will give back.
I am looking forward to your holiday stories, your seasonal stories, your life stories. Let's publish them on the new Red Easel!

I hope you are enjoying the new and improved Red Easel! After 2
months of hard work behind the scenes to create a site and design that
I was proud of and hoping that you would be too, I think I have
succeeded.
This is my goal - that you can find everything easily
and that you like the links and the visuals on every page. That you
find the information and inspiration you need as an artist, and if you
have something to share or add to our collection of information and
inspiration, that you will contribute to our online magazine. From
quotes to tutorials - we appreciate your story contributions here at
Red Easel.
Also, every month I will choose an artist to
Feature. I am still trying to figure out a way to choose an artist
that is fair to all who are part of the Red Easel Gallery and also take
the time to contribute to our collection of stories and tutorials and
more. The nice thing about being featured is that this artist will not
only have a prominent place in the left sidebar with a link to their
site, but the featured artist will also have one of their paintings
featured on the Red Easel Masthead for an entire month and also on the
cover of that month's magazine. Can't get much better than that! This
is great promotion baby! Go for it!
Contributing stories -
personal stories, art business stories, gallery stories, tutorials, art
history, stories of creative struggle and artistic success - anything
that would be of interest to the fine people and fine artists that stop
by Red Easel would be great. That is what we are here for - you - and
we need "you" to contribute your stories with us so that we can share
them with the visual artist community.
I want every artist to
have an opportunity to share their experiences. Of course, your story
will go through a little bit of an editorial pre-run before
publication, but all-in-all, we are anxious to hear from all of you.
That is what will make Red Easel so great in the long run - your
stories and more.
I want to help you to promote your work, and
put "life" behind the canvas. In other words - I, personally, believe
that it is just as important for people to know the artist as it is for
them to know the art. If they know your story, I believe they are more
apt to collect your work. It will be something more than just a work
of art on the wall - it will be a "story." So share. Your stories
will grow and so will your collectors.

New Artists!
Yes, we have some new artists - but I haven't added them to the gallery yet. I'm gettin' on it! With all the site redesign going on, I haven't had a chance to add the new artists to the Red Easel Gallery. I will tell you this, though - there are a lot of them! And, when they are all added, we will have over 100 visual artists in our gallery!
In the meantime, just as in last month's newsletter, here are the last artists I added to our gallery. Next month promises to have about 20 more. I bet you can't wait, right?

What Painting is This?
Obviously, I got things all mixed up this month. So, the winner of this wonderful game has not been chosen yet. I can't get my comments to show up on the blog, but you can still comment and leave your answer. Then, the December issue will feature the winning artist!

It has been a while since we played this game. But it sure is fun. Here is a beautiful work and the artist
was groundbreaking in his portrayal of light and night scenes.
I'll give you a hint ...
Here is what they say about him at the National Gallery of Art:
This artist has long been celebrated as one of the most gifted interpreters of the American West. Initially, his western images appeared as illustrations in popular journals. As he matured, however, he turned his attention away from illustration, concentrating instead on painting and sculpture. About 1900 he began a series of paintings that took as their subject the color of night. Before his premature death in 1909 at age forty-eight, [this artist] completed more than seventy paintings in which he explored the technical and aesthetic difficulties of painting darkness.
Surprisingly, [this artist's] nocturnes are filled with color and light-moonlight, firelight, and candlelight. These complex paintings testify to the artist's interest in modern technological innovations, including flash photography and the advent of electricity, which was rapidly transforming the character of night. The paintings are also elegiac, for they reflect his lament that the West he had known as a young man had, by the turn of the century, largely disappeared. Although immediately recognized as extraordinary works, [this artist's] late nocturnes have never before been the subject of an exhibition. "The Color of Night" gathers together for the first time the finest of these mysterious, often deeply personal paintings.What Painting is This? Still out of Work ....
My Big Bear is still out of work. He networks daily trying to find work, though. My brother, Bill, in Florida, has also been out of work for over a year. Can life get much worse? You bet! And that is why I am counting all of my blessings and believe that although we have faced some tough challenges this past year and continue to face them daily, the lessons we have learned about our financial security and the lessons that have been passed on to our children as a result of this year's financial struggles have been good. I believe in finding the silver lining around every cloud.

Red Easel welcomes submissions by professional visual artists for a directory listing and gallery portfolio. The first 100 artists will receive a free listing and gallery of 5 images with a link to their website. As of today, when I finish adding the new artists on the list for December, we will have over 100 artists! All artists who send me their work for consideration and who are accepted into Red Easel will be able to show their work for an annual cost of 30.00. What a deal!
